Buriram were given a fright by Songkhla as they reached the League Cup Final where they will meet Muang Thong. The league leaders will not exactly be quaking in their boots as Buriram only managed to force the home keeper into one save of any note.
Yet again, there was no threat up front as Buriram elected to leave Diogo on the bench. The midfield was crying out for someone to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and bring some sort of pattern to the play.
Instead, Buriram were out-fought by their lower- league opponents who were desperately unlucky not to at least have won the game. They should have had a goal when the ball hit the bar and bounced down over the line but the assistant was too far back to award the goal.
It came at a time when Buriram were under the cosh and had the goal been given, who knows what would have happened. The defence looked shaky and the introduction of Tunez for the dependable Koravit failed to improve things.
The ball was given away with alarming frequency and Kaio had another game to forget up front. Jakkaphan has been given the responsibility for dead-ball kicks and again these were hugely disappointing.
Buriram also picked up five yellow cards, all for reckless, needless challenges. It has got to go down as Buriram’s worst performance of the season and there have been a number of very poor ones.
The end of the season can’t come soon enough and to say that major rebuilding is required is an understatement. The next game is a league match away at Nakhon Ratchasima on Saturday September 17, kick off 7pm.
Let’s hope for a huge improvement.
