News of Buriram’s Bamboo Bar acquiring darting facilities reached players in Surin province. A challenge was subsequently received from Ryan’s Resort, just outside Prasat and it was readily accepted. A date was then fixed.
On Monday January 26th, the Bamboo Darts Team of Peter Dempsey (self-appointed captain), Nick Floyd, Peter Hughes, Neil Cameron, John MacDonald, Graham Dresser and Chris Hughes assembled at the Bamboo Bar at 10a.m.
After some light morning refreshment, the team headed off in a well-appointed mini-bus.
Ready To Leave
The Bamboo Darts Team arrived at Ryan’s Resort around midday They were greeted by their opponents and the teams got acquainted over a beer. The format was to be 7 singles matches, 4 doubles (Ryan’s Resort kindly provided a spare player to make up the Bamboo eight) and a team game.
The singles matches did not go well for the Bamboo team who found themselves 5-2 down .
However, a stirring recovery in the doubles meant that the score now stood at 6-5 to the Ryan’s Resort.
With all resting on the final team game, tensions were high. It proved to be a close encounter that went to the wire,with Ryan’s Resort just edging it.
The Winning Team From Ryan’s Resort
Deserving a special mention from the day, Pete Hughes was the top scorer from either side with 122 for nearly the whole match. However Nick Floyd came in with a 124 at the death just pipping Peter at the post for best individual score.
Neil Cameron’s jubilant celebration when he closed out his doubles match could be heard in Buriram and was one of the day’s highlights.
Halfway through the doubles matches there was a break for lunch and the players were treated to an excellent hot buffet , which really was of a very high standard.
The return match will be at the Bamboo Bar on February 5th giving Buriram the chance to extract appropriate revenge.
