600cc Buriram3Last year saw the Petronas Asia Road Race (now FIM Asia Road Race) return to Thailand for the very first time in fourteen years. The occasion was further hyped as it was the newly built Chang International Circuit’s first ever international race meeting.

Not to disappoint, the weekend turned out to be a real thriller. As covered by the Buriram Times, the Asia wide tournament produced nail biting drama in nearly every race.

Just under one year later the race is due to appear in Buriram for a second time. The 4th round of the series following on from rounds in Malaysia, Indonesia & Japan is appearing this weekend.

Possibly attracting a few crowds, Thai riders in the series are doing very well to date.

In the 600cc super sport class Ratthapong Wilairot, who qualified in first place last year, lies in 7th place overall 36 pts behind the series leader, even after two DNF’s in Suzuka.  With 50 pts up for grabs at the BRIC he is in a strong position to challenge.

The Suzuki cup has another Thai rider Patis Chooprahet currently lying in 2nd position in this class & finally with Muklada Sarafuech of Thailand leading the Asia Dream Cup championship all looks good for them when they come to their home track.

Last years Asia Dream Cup race at Buriram produced tail to tail racing right to the finish line.

We at the Buriram Times will be covering the event & we expect to see as always a great turnout from the Thai fans to cheer their home country riders at their home track.

The 5th round of the FIM ARRC is held in October in Qatar before returning to BRIC for the 6th & final round in December.
