In the provinces of Chonburi, Rayong, and Surin, three individuals have lost their lives due to an increase in rabies cases. The cause of these deaths was the absence of proper vaccination after coming into contact with the disease. Additionally, a 28-year-old man from Myanmar died in Tak province after being bitten by a rabid dog while in Myanmar.

Dr. Tares Krassanairawiwong, the Director of the Department of Disease Control, provided a report stating that between January 1 and May 23, 2023, there were three recorded deaths. These deaths occurred in Chonburi, Rayong, and Surin, as the victims did not receive rabies vaccinations after encountering infected animals. Some individuals had previously been vaccinated, but they failed to receive a booster shot after being bitten.

The 28-year-old Myanmar national who passed away on May 3 had been in Myanmar in mid-March when he was bitten by a dog. He experienced symptoms starting on April 26 and sought treatment privately in Tak. Due to his worsening condition, he was admitted to Mae Sot Hospital on April 28, where his saliva samples tested positive for rabies. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the disease on May 3.

Since the infection occurred outside of Thailand, this particular case is not included in the local reports. However, health authorities are actively monitoring and following up with individuals who may have been affected.
