The BRIC Superbike Championship meeting in Buriram gave us a very entertaining day’s racing. There were plenty of spills with one unfortunate rider breaking his leg and ending up at the Buriram Hospital.
Following yesterday’s qualifying the line up on the grid was BMW on both pole and second place with Yamaha on third. Our featured team rider from yesterday, Ben Fortt, was lying in fourth on a Honda CBR1000.
Ben Fortt in Fourth Grid Position
Ben had a blistering start and was nearly in the lead by the first bend before being caught but managed to hold on to P 3. Conditions were perfect with the race proceeding at a furious pace. Chaivichit Nisagon on his Yamaha R1 took the lead early on having started from third position on the grid.
The battle continued for other positions in particular for the third and fourth spots with Ben Fortt fighting hard to keep his place. At around halfway into the race the SR-RUN team had a catastrophe as the engine gave way and Ben had to retire due to mechanical failure.
The race continued at an exciting pace with Bangkok rider Chaivichit riding for Yamaha Rider’s Club Racing team holding on to the lead and finishing on P 1.
