The Buriram Times has already featured Buriram Golf Course and for those who fancy a trip out to play another course, Surin is only 50 km down the road.
Like Buriram, it is situated at the quite picturesque Army camp on the outskirts of Surin.
It is a nine hole course consisting of two par threes, two par fives and five par fours. One of the par threes offers a challenging shot over water ,whilst the other requires a solid 200 yard strike.
One of the par fours and one of the fives are right-angle dog-legs which require careful thought.
First Tee and Fairway
The fairways are reasonably well-grassed and not too tight, but there are some “well-situated” trees which can cause problems to a slightly wayward shot The greens hold the ball well ,are quite slick and offer the opportunity to stroke puts rather than hit them.
Refreshments are available on the course and in the clubhouse. There is a well-appointed driving range and a practice putting green which runs similar to the course greens. A practice bunker is also available as are buggies for those requiring them.
Surin has a resident professional who can provide tuition and a club re-gripping and re-shafting service,
The pro-shop is well-stocked with everything the avid golfer requires, including new and second-hand clubs.
Green fees are 350 baht for 18 holes and 250 baht for 9. The caddies are friendly and knowledgeable but do require a discretionary tip on top of the green fee .
As a player I can recommend Surin as an enjoyable and fair test of golf, well worth a visit.
P.S. unfortunately on that day our camera failed us rather badly. If anyone would like to send us some better photos of the course please feel free to do so. Send them to firstname.lastname@example.org. Many thanks. The Buriram Times Team.
