Another great weekend for racing at the Chang International Circuit which was hosting this time Round 2 of the Asia Road Racing Championship at this now famous circuit favoured by competitors and spectators alike.
For us reporting, the downside was the weather, with air temp. of 37 and track temp. about 44. We spent a lot of the weekend inside the air conditioned media centre where you can monitor the racing on your own screens and get up- to- date results within a few minutes of a race finishing .This is a world class facility with over 100 work stations for the local and international media present.
The racing consisted of 5 races each day as follows:
Asia Dream Cup.
Suzuki Asian Challenge.
Asia Production 250cc.
The highlight on Saturday was the AP 250 race with Thai riders Apiwat, Peerapong and Somkiat taking 1, 2 & 3 on the podium. On Sunday they missed out but another Thai rider Anupab grabbed 2nd place to ensure a Thai flag was raised on the podium once again.
The Asia Dream Cup provided some of the closest, exciting racing of the weekend with both races decided on last lap, last corner incidents. (see seperate report on rider we followed in this series Broc Pearson of Australia.)
The Suzuki Asian Challenge and the Underbone 130cc also provided excellent racing as always but with no Thai riders participating in these classes.
The big boys, the 600 cc Supersports, raced on Saturday as local favourite Ratthapong Wilirot had bike problems on the last lap but managed to start on Sunday.
In all, a great weekend’s racing again at the circuit, well organized and with the marshals doing an excellent job .We complain about the heat but imagine being out on the track all day in that heat!
