This is an alternative guide to golf in Khon Kaen. A whimsical look at some of the odd features of different courses. Those courses include Singha Park, Dancoon, Ubolratana Dam, The Army course, Sribrirak or simply The Ag (because we cant pronounce it`s real name) & Yang Talat

In no particular order lets start at The Army course where, as you can see in the picture, it backs onto the end of the runway of Khon Kaen Airport. The noise can be a tad distracting.

Then there’s the ever popular 9 hole Agricultural Course or The Ag for short. The par 5 8th hole being made slightly easier now the big tree in the middle of the fairway has fallen down. They now have golf carts, though not exactly new, they are cheap at 200 baht for 9 holes, 400 for 18. You can also buy some of your own balls back that went into the water for 100 baht. Plus you do occasionally get natural hazards around the par 5 4th hole

Many players favorite golf course is Ubolratana or The Dam, mainly because of the scenery  but often considered the hardest because of tree lined fairways. Just before you turn off highway 2, heading to the course, Ois little restaurant on the right does the most amazing roast dinners  for around 200 baht. Best to get her number and book ahead first.

There are numerous golf ranges, Be Bright, Dancoon (under reconstruction June 2017), Raja City & Singha Park to name a few. Singha Park would probably top the list as the best with its chip & put area as well. Though distance markers would be an obvious addition.

Yang Talat golf course, heading out towards Kalasin is not that popular a course amongst the Khon Kaen golfing fraternity. It`s still developing but if money were invested might have potential.

For the football casual golfer you can even buy a pair of Adidas Samba Golf Shoes. I spotted these beauties in the sports shop on the 1st floor at Tukcom shopping centre. Going back to the 80s`

Khon Kaen Rotary club do a lot of good charity work. They held a Golf Day at The Dam, at the end of April 2017, raising money for Children’s Cancer at the local hospital in Khon Kaen

Honorary mentions should go to Dancoon – for The Best Air Con in A Locker Room. Raja City Driving Range for being the flattest with good distance markers. The Army Course for unrecognizable fairways. And last but not least the beautiful golf caddies, that spend all that time putting on make-up, only to hide it with a burka!
